The surgical services teams of Aspire Rural Health System Hospitals are able to perform a wide spectrum of general and specialty surgical services for adults and children. Our surgeons utilize techniques and technologies that offer patients optimal results—from minimally invasive surgeries that use small incisions, to image-guided technologies that enhance precision.
Advances in surgical skills and technology have dramatically increased the number of procedures that can be performed on an outpatient (same-day) basis, which can alleviate the need for patients to stay overnight and helps to return them to health more quickly. More complex procedures may require a stay in the hospital.
The surgical services team is truly multidisciplinary and is staffed by board certified surgeons, registered nurses, certified registered nurse anesthetists, certified scrub technicians, and assistants/attendants.
A University of Michigan-led team carried out an analysis of data from 1.6 million hospital stays for four common operations: gallbladder removal, colon surgery, hernia repair and appendectomy. They compared what happened to patients covered by Medicare who had their operations at 828 critical access hospitals with data from patients treated at more than 3,600 larger hospitals.
The analysis yielded several surprises:
At Aspire Deckerville Community Hospital, we are proud to offer the following services in a comfortable setting.
Colonoscopy: During the early stages of colon cancer, many people don’t experience any symptoms. And regular screenings, like a colonoscopy, are the best way to catch colon cancer early when it’s most curable. During the test, the doctor can find and remove most polyps and some cancers. Colonoscopy also is used as a follow-up test if anything unusual is found during one of the other screening tests.
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD): EGD is a test to examine the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and first part of the small intestine (the duodenum).
