When the Marlette Red Raiders and Brown City Green Devils meet on the football field Friday, September 18, there will be plenty of school pride and friendly rivalry on display. But this year, there is another reason for both communities to come together.
The Pink Out for Cancer Clash is back this fall, turning a long-standing football rivalry into an opportunity to support local families affected by breast cancer.
The evening will begin with a community tailgate from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Brown City High School, followed by kickoff at 7 p.m. The event benefits the Aspire Rural Health System Foundation’s Breast Cancer Understanding, Prevention & Screenings (B.C.U.P.S.) Program, which helps remove financial barriers to breast cancer screening and treatment for people in our communities.
And there are plenty of ways to be part of it.
This year’s event will include a raffle featuring some great prizes sponsored by Kohler’s Propane Co. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25. The first-place winner will take home a Milwaukee six-piece tool set valued at $1,000. Second place is a $500 gift certificate to Zehnder’s Splash Village, and third place is a NEBO 1500 jump starter and air compressor.
Fans can also show their support by purchasing a Pink Out for Cancer t-shirt for $20. The shirts aren’t just a way to wear your support on game night—they also include free admission to the football game. The online Pink Out store closes Friday, August 28. Through the B.C.U.P.S. Program, uninsured and underinsured individuals can receive assistance with screening mammograms, diagnostic testing, and other breast cancer-related needs. For local patients who have already received a breast cancer diagnosis, the program can also provide grant funding to help ease some of the financial burden that comes with treatment.
For many families, a cancer diagnosis brings enough uncertainty without having to worry about how to afford necessary care. Programs like B.C.U.P.S. help make sure that financial circumstances don’t stand between someone and the care they need.
That’s what makes the Pink Out for Cancer Clash special. Two communities that spend a night competing against one another are also coming together for a common cause. Whether you’re wearing red, green or pink, there is a place for everyone in the stands.
