United Hospice Service (UHS) of Aspire Rural Health System is honored to celebrate an extraordinary milestone with a very special group of volunteers. Charlie’s Angels Quilting Group, a dedicated group of men and women from Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties, recently completed and donated their 2,000th hand-made quilt—each one stitched with love, compassion, and a heartfelt message of support.
The group was founded 18 years ago by Brenda Miller of Bad Axe, in memory of her brother, Charlie Kiehl, who received care at the Hospice Residence in Marlette. After Charlie’s passing in 2007, Brenda and her family were deeply touched to receive a handmade quilt from the hospice team. Inspired by that act of kindness, Brenda began gathering friends and family to create quilts for future patients—launching what would become Charlie’s Angels Quilting Group.
Since 2007, every quilt made by this group has been uniquely designed, featuring a wide variety of colors, patterns, and textures. Each quilt bears a thoughtful label that reads: “May this blanket bring you peace and comfort.”
At United Hospice Service, it is a heartfelt tradition to gift a special, hand-crafted quilt to each patient receiving hospice care—whether at home or in the Hospice Residence. These quilts offer more than physical warmth; they serve as symbols of dignity, comfort, and compassion, and later become cherished keepsakes for the grieving families.
“This group’s love and dedication have touched thousands of lives in the most meaningful ways,” shared Tammy Bricker, Director of United Hospice Service. “We are incredibly grateful for Charlie’s Angels and the comfort they continue to bring to our patients and families—one quilt at a time.”
