Sanilac County Community Mental Health has graciously donated $1,066 to Aspire Rural Health System’s P.C.U.P.S. (Prostate Cancer Understanding, Prevention & Screening) Program. This contribution will directly support prostate cancer awareness, prevention, and accessible screening services for residents across Michigan’s Thumb region.
The P.C.U.P.S. program provides financial assistance for prostate cancer education and prevention efforts, as well as free PSA screenings and grant support for eligible community members. With the American Cancer Society estimating that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, early detection and education remain critical in improving outcomes.
A PSA screening, offered through the program, is a simple blood test that measures prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. Elevated PSA levels may indicate prostate cancer or other noncancerous conditions such as prostatitis or an enlarged prostate. While the PSA test is not a diagnostic tool, it is an important first step in identifying men who may need further evaluation.
Thumb Area residents without health insurance coverage may qualify for the P.C.U.P.S. program and receive screenings and support at no cost. Screenings are performed at Aspire Deckerville Community Hospital, Aspire Hills & Dales Healthcare, and Aspire Marlette Regional Hospital.
Aspire Rural Health System extends heartfelt appreciation to Sanilac County Community Mental Health for helping make early detection and prevention more accessible in our communities and for supporting life-saving care close to home. To learn more, please visit www.aspirerhs.org.
