The P.C.U.P.S. program financially assists Thumb Area residents with prostate cancer understanding and prevention, as well as free PSA screenings and grant assistance.
The American Cancer Society estimates that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. The PSA Screening is a blood draw that tests for elevated PSA levels, which may indicate prostate cancer or a noncancerous condition such as prostatitis or an enlarged prostate. This screening is not used as a tool for diagnosis.
Patients that do not have health insurance coverage or those who are underinsured (limitations with insurance coverage, co-pays, large out-of-pocket deductible, younger than age criteria for screening, etc.) may qualify for this program.
PSA screenings are provided through the P.C.U.P.S. program and are performed at Aspire Deckerville Community Hospital, Aspire Hills & Dales Healthcare and Aspire Marlette Regional Hospital.
This grant provides $500 in financial assistance for those undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, and patients are eligible to reapply for funding every 6 months. Applicants must be resident of: Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac or Tuscola County. In order to process a financial request, the applicant must complete P.C.U.P.S. Grant Application, provide state issued driver’s license or identification card, and provide a copy of documentation showing breast cancer diagnosis.
